Monday:

  • Human Body Systems Poster Project (Extra Credit)

Due: Wednesday

Students will create a poster detailing the structures and functions of one of the Body Systems that we’ve covered over the last few weeks. 

Requirements:

  • All of the organs and structures that were covered should be labled on the poster.
  • An explanation of the function of each organ/structure within the chosen system should be placed next to each organ.
  • The poster should be bright, colorful and informative.
  • Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar should be used on the final product.
  • I’m giving extra points for creativity.

Study Guide: Students were given a packet in class to assist in preparation for the final exam. We will also review the systems, structures and functions prior to the exam on Wednesday.

Tuesday:

This week we will cover the Reproductive System and Integumentary System. Students will complete a final Human Body Systems project in class before we move on to our Physics Unit. Our final exam for Human Body Systems is scheduled for next Wednesday (4-2-14).

Monday:

  • Students will identify changes that take place in the male and female during puberty.

Homework: Review Reproductive System Notes. Make sure that you can identify the organs and discuss the functions of the organs within the male and female Reproductive Systems.

Students will diagram and label one Human Body System in detail as part of this in-class project. Students will identify the organs and functions of each organ within their chosen system.

Report Card Information

Dear Parents,

All Science grades for Q3 report cards will be finalized tonight.

  • The Digestive System Quiz and Human Body System Projects will be entered on the Quarter 4 report card.
  • I will make students aware of their grades on these two assignments/assessments on Monday.

Due to our schedule changes this week and Tuesday’s “snow day”, I’m giving students until Thursday to turn in any quiz corrections.

Monday:

Guest Speaker: Nutrition and Digestive Health:

As part of our unit on the Digestive System, Mrs. Jen Sohl-Marion, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, has agreed to speak to the class about nutrition and how to interpret food labels in order to promote healthy eating habits.

Jen Sohl-Marion, MPH, RD, LDN

Jen Sohl-Marion is a Registered Dietitian with a strong interest in the mind-body connection. She earned her Master of Public Health degree in Nutrition from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

She devoted the first  twelve years of her professional career to teaching high school biology and taking leadership roles to advocate for the needs of students and staff.  Her success in improving her medical conditions, providing healthy and tasty meals for her family, and teaching her students about good nutrition inspired her to reach out help others make positive changes in their lives.

As a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN), she has undergone rigorous training and offers nutrition counseling based on the latest scientific evidence in the field of nutrition. An RD, LDN is the only type of nutritionist permitted to practice dietetics/nutrition in North Carolina.

This week, students will identify the structures and functions of the organs within the digestive system. We will continue the second part of our Human Body Systems Lab and students will use a potato to examine enzymes and the digestive process. 

Monday: Warmup:  Text pages B44-B51. Answer questions 1-5. Define all vocabulary.  Due Friday.

We will continue our study of the Respiratory System and the Circulatory System. Students will identify the location and function of the Larynx, Epiglottis, Trachea, Nose, Diaphragm, Right Bronchus, Left Bronchus, alveoli, mucous membranes, and Nasal Cavity.
